At just 16 years old, Elizabeth “Liz” Simiona has already shown the kind of resilience and determination that defines true athletes. A rising star in netball, Liz currently plays for Sharks Netball and has secured a place on the U16 Flames team for July 2025. But her journey to this moment hasn’t been without challenge.
Liz’s netball pathway includes:
U14s Pythons Gold – 2023
U15s Pythons Gold – 2024
U15s Peninsula – June 2024
U16s Flames – July 2025
Her story took a tough turn in 2024 when she tore her meniscus. The injury could have sidelined her dreams, but instead, it became the start of a powerful comeback. Supported by The Female Co team, Libby, Sonja, Stephy and Otis, and Active Performance Physio Tayla, Liz committed herself to rehab, training, and staying focused on her goals.
Reflecting on the experience, Liz shared:
“I began my journey with TFC in 2024, shortly before tearing my meniscus. Throughout my rehab and training, the incredible support and guidance from the TFC team have been instrumental in my recovery and development. Thanks to their help, I was able to successfully trial and earn a spot on the U16 Flames Netball team. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunities TFC has provided and excited for what lies ahead!”
Her mum, Sei Simiona, is equally proud of her daughter’s grit and determination:
“Liz has worked so hard to get back to netball. Through all the pain and heartache she was determined to get back to netball and her daily activities. We are so proud of her!!”
Looking ahead, Liz’s aspirations are as bold as her spirit. She dreams of one day pulling on the jerseys of the Queensland Firebirds, the Australian Diamonds, and her homeland Cook Islands national team.
Elizabeth’s journey is more than a comeback, it’s a testament to resilience, family support, and the power of community. And at The Female Co, we couldn’t be prouder to stand alongside her as she continues to rise.
